"Bernice Bobs Her Hair" is a very good short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about an awkward girl's transformation into a social butterfly. When she becomes more popular than her mentor, her mentor humiliates her in revenge. But Bernice gets the last laugh! Check it out at your local library or on Amazon.
